In a remarkable life-saving procedure, Dr. Alok Singhal, Senior Cardiologist and HOD of the Cardiology Department at Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU) Hospital, Moradabad, successfully treated a 45-year-old heart patient without the need for bypass surgery. The patient, Mohammad Nasir, a local shopkeeper from Moradabad, was suffering from an acute inferior wall myocardial infarction (MI), a condition similar to a heart attack.
Mohammad Nasir experienced intense chest pain and was initially rushed to a reputed hospital in Delhi. However, doctors there advised an immediate bypass surgery. Alarmed by the suggestion and concerned about the surgical risks, the family decided to explore other options. Eventually, they brought the patient to TMU Hospital for a second opinion.
Upon admission, TMU’s emergency department conducted a thorough cardiac evaluation, including angiography. The results revealed complete blockages in two major coronary arteries — the Left Anterior Descending (LAD) and the Left Circumflex (LCX) arteries. These critical blockages typically demand surgical intervention.
Despite the complexity, Dr. Alok Singhal and his experienced cardiology team opted for a high-risk, minimally invasive angioplasty. Using specialised angioplasty wires, balloons, and bifurcation stenting techniques, they placed two stents in the LAD artery and one stent in the LCX artery. This successfully restored blood flow to the heart, eliminating the need for bypass surgery.
Dr. Alok Singhal, who holds a DM in Cardiology and MD in Medicine, has performed over 5,000 cardiac procedures. He is recognised among North India’s leading heart specialists and has participated in cardiology conferences across 27 countries. Since 2008, he has been serving at TMU Hospital and has received multiple prestigious awards for his contributions to cardiac care.
The life-saving angioplasty was conducted under the Ayushman Bharat Health Scheme, ensuring free treatment for the patient.
One of the key highlights of this case was that the entire treatment, including the high-end angioplasty, was performed free of cost under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana. This government-backed initiative ensured that Mohammad Nasir, who could not afford an expensive bypass surgery, received world-class cardiac care without a financial burden.
Commenting on the successful outcome, Dr. Singhal emphasised the importance of timely diagnosis, patient counselling, and the availability of modern interventional cardiology techniques. His team, including Dr. Faizan Ahmad and Dr. Shrey Singh, contributed to this clinical success.
TMU Hospital's achievement reaffirms its standing as a centre of excellence in cardiac care and interventional cardiology. Patients from across the region continue to trust TMU Hospital for critical treatments delivered with compassion and expertise.
